Welcome!   My studio is Fig Tree studio, overlooking the bush covered hills of Belmont, in Lower Hutt, Wellington.

I work surrounded by beautiful birdsong or watching the weather dance across the hills.

I source inspiration from the nature that surrounds me.

All Rudd's work is hand built, the majority pinched and coiled, a technique of adding thick coils of clay to the piece then pinching, squeezing and shaping the clay as it is extended.

Once the forming process is completed the work is scraped and the form refined.

Scythe’s current work reflects both his New Zealand and Māori heritage, his passion for Japanese ceramic traditions and the long time he spent living in Japan.  It expresses the Oribe (after tea master Futura Oribe1544–1615) way of working: an aesthetic of flawed beauty and his own desire to “…bring Momoyama Mino ware into the 21st century…”.
